Statistically, only 27% of first-generation college students in the U.S. graduate within four years, and only 50% graduate at all. But at UDallas, our first-gen students are far exceeding those national statistics. First-gen UDallas students who take advantage of the scholarships and support provided by our Academic Success Office are graduating at an impressive rate of 74%.

Led by Matthew Spring, PhD ’15, the office provides comprehensive programming with demonstrated outcomes for first-gen students.

“The first-gen program has given me a community where I can connect with other students with the same background as me.”

GRECIA GRAJEDA GUERRA

“Being part of the program has made me feel very supported academically and emotionally,” says Grecia Grajeda Guerra, BA ’25, “and it’s also given me the chance to embrace my identity and feel empowered as a first-gen student.”

In the class of 2025, 34 graduates were recipients of the Constantin Scholarship for first-gen students. Some plan to go on to master’s programs or medical school; others will give their time in service to programs including Teach for America, Jolt and the Army Corps of Engineers. Still others are preparing for careers in accounting, art and marketing.
