Should I Get an MBA? Alumni Insights On What Sets UDallas Apart

There are plenty of options when it comes to where, how, and when you can get an MBA. Full-time programs, part-time, flex, online, hybrid, in-state, private—the list goes on. With so many choices, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

Amid this sea of programs, many simply punch your ticket, stamp those three letters behind your name, and send you on your way.

At the University of Dallas, we took the traditional MBA playbook and tore it up. Rather than churning out middle managers, we shape leaders from the inside out—leaders ready for what the future of business demands: moral courage, integrity, and a deeply human approach.

Read firsthand from our alumni how the UDallas MBA stands apart and how this transformative education has profoundly impacted their careers, lives, and the people around them.

Experience Over Theory

The program allowed me to gain perspective necessary to help me shape my own career beyond operations. Hearing the professors talk and reading about Peter Drucker and other inspiring people helped me think differently about business. So I’d say it wasn’t one class or experience, but the whole well-rounded education, from accounting and looking at P&Ls to marketing and learning about branding. - Jack Gibbons, MBA '05

I chose the University of Dallas because of its on-campus learning, and because most classes are taught by real professionals with hands-on, relatable experience, as opposed to working primarily in theory. I was able to ask questions in class and directly apply them to my work while forming a great network and relationship with my professors. The night classes allowed me to work at the same time. - Mark Houle, BA '16, MBA '24, MS '24

Success That Continues to Give

In my role at Comerica Bank and in life, I have the constant opportunity to help people be successful. I use my MBA every day when I mentor small business professionals and entrepreneurs. - Irvin Ashford, MBA ’00

I've found that I'm able to approach challenges that come up more objectively and to delegate tasks more effectively, offering my team more opportunities to develop their own skills. - Tony Lenhoff, MBA '17

Faculty Directly From the Field

The University of Dallas has a great reputation. Most faculty members work in the field they instruct in, which was a big selling point for me. - Richard Hunter, MBA '17

The professors are very enthusiastic about their fields, so they enjoy and even encourage in-depth classroom discussions. This leads to deep connections not only with the concepts you're learning but in personal networking relationships once class is over. - Juana Lazo, MBA '19

Careers Beyond the Bottom Line

As the Senior Manager of Fan Services for the Atlanta Falcons, I apply the knowledge and skills I gained from the Gupta MBA program every day. My goal is to ensure that every fan, regardless of ticket price, enjoys an exceptional experience at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. To achieve this, I focus on hiring the right people, leading my team effectively, and making customer service a top priority - all of which I learned during my time in the UD program, for which I am deeply grateful - Kelly Jones MBA '15

The University of Dallas emphasized a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, which proved invaluable in my career. The skills I acquired in sports and entertainment management, marketing, financial analysis, project management, and strategic planning were directly applicable to the dynamic and often unpredictable world of film production. The program's focus on ethical leadership and innovative problem-solving has guided me through complex industry challenges, helping me make informed decisions and foster strong, collaborative relationships. - Rodney Williams MBA '05

At the University of Dallas, we prepare future business leaders with the skills that machines can’t replace. While technology will continue to shape business processes, the future of business will be driven by something deeper—humanity.
